The undershirt IS, arguably, the male version of a bra. Women have 8,000 different bras to pick from. Sports bras, full cup, padded, strapless, shelf, and even bras that hide back fat.Statistics show that over 65% of women still wear the incorrect bra size. The selection is overwhelming! How many MEN wear an undershirt that doesn’t fit correctly? We’re willing to bet it’s over 95%.
Unfortunately, the undershirt selection for men isn’t anywhere near what it is for women. We are forced to do the following:
1. Buy undershirts a size smaller, so they fit us in the chest. The problem is they are then too short in length
2. Buy undershirts a size bigger, so they are long enough. The problem here is they are usually WAY too baggy and boxy.
3. Buy a size bigger and dry them on high heat, so they shrink enough to fit.
It still amazes me that men will pay thousands of dollars on tailored suits, tailored pants and tailored shirts. What if they need an undershirt? They get one from the store that appears to fit great (most major brands pin the shirts behind the models to make them “appear” tailored). Unfortunately, the undershirt ends up completely ruining their appearance. It’s like going to McDonalds…the burgers never look the way they do in the pictures. The undershirt world, until now, has been very similar in that they never fit us they way they “appear” to fit on the packaging. Most undershirts make men appear to look 10-15 lbs heavier due to the bunching around our waist line. I don’t know one guy who says the “fake love handle” appearance doesn’t bother him.
I can’t tell you how many times I went to a department store, looked at the male model on the packaging, felt the fabric, and thought…”this shirt is going to be great!” Once I got home and put the undershirt on, I couldn’t figure out why it was made to fit a man with a 40” waist. It often shrunk quickly to a size that didn’t fit. Sometimes all 3 shirts in my 3 pack would shrink to different lengths!
Why do men continue to do this? Many of us here at Tommy John ask ourselves this question every day.
We are on a mission to get all men to look and feel better in their clothing. That mission starts with wearing a Tommy John undershirt. Our Tailored Stretch Technology is a savior. Our shirts fit and function just like they appear on our website. There is no deception or let down upon taking them out of the package.
Tommy John is, simply, the ultimate undershirt . Try one out, you will thank yourself every morning.
